Facilities Technician Position Description

Position: Facilities Technician
Reports To: Director of Facilities
Position Status: Full-time, regular, approximately 40 hours per week
WFH: 5% of the time or less
Position Classification: Non-exempt
Location: Washington, D.C.

Position Summary: Provides overall support to all facilities- and maintenance-related needs of a 16-building, 25-acre estate. 

Organizational Relationship

Performs under the direct supervision of the Sr. Head of Engineering and Sustainability.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides general and detailed maintenance (either with direct or indirect supervision), including patching, painting, and other repair/replacement work as required.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment, such as changing filters, belts, lamps, switches, and receptacles; small plumbing repairs; building repairs; etc. of all interior and exterior.
  • Assists the team in their duties as required.   
  • Performs routine daily inspections of assigned buildings and spaces.
  • Orders materials for various projects.  Completes all documentation for work performed, in a timely manner.
  • Oversees and performs the duties associated with events, including ensuring paperwork is received, setups and tear downs are completed on time, and spaces are returned to normal state afterward. Serves as an On-Call person for after-hours urgent matters.
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • At least two years of verifiable experience (three or more highly desirable) maintaining various building interior and exterior surfaces, including painted and papered walls, baseboards, tiled and carpeted floor surfaces, and brass and stainless steel finishes. 
  • Ability to use basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and custodial hand and electrical-powered tools. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to receive and respond to work assignments in both formats. 
  • Strong command of the English language is a plus, but not a requirement.
  • Ability to perform extensive walking to include flights of stairs and uneven and somewhat steep ground terrain. 
  • Ability to work from a ladder or scaffolding.
  • Capable of occasionally lifting up to fifty pounds. 
  • Incumbent must be flexible and able to work overtime on weekends and evenings in support of special program events. 
  • Incumbent is designated as an essential staff member and required to work during periods of extreme inclement weather in support of snow removal and other emergency situations.
