Gardener's Focus Tour | Japanese-style Garden
Experience the serenity and beauty of the Japanese-style garden, just as Marjorie Post and so many of her guests did.
Join Michael Rollinson, gardener, as he shares a behind-the-scenes look at the intricately manicured, yet “naturally wild,” Japanese-style garden.
Please note that the Japanese-style garden is accessible via steep stairs and paths which may have no railings. Visitors who are not able or who are uncomfortable descending stairs can see much of the garden from an overlook.
Tickets are distributed at the Ellen MacNeille Charles Visitor Center upon opening each day. This thirty-minute tour is limited to twelve and meets by the Lunar Lawn.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Michael Rollinson, garden section manager and gardener supervisor, takes care of Hillwood’s Japanese-style garden and an area of gardens by the Adirondack and Dacha. Starting in spring of 2022, Michael brought a wide variety of horticultural experience to the role. He gained important insight to gardening in public spaces while working as a groundsperson at George Washington University. This was a change for him after spending several years managing high end residential landscapes. Aside from this experience, he also has a strong plant knowledge base developed by working in area garden centers for over six years.
