Virtual Orchid Tour | An Orchid-Filled Greenhouse

Virtual Orchid tourMarjorie Merriweather Post had the greenhouse constructed to house her extensive collection of exotic orchids, as well as cut flowers grown for floral arrangements throughout the mansion.

The horticulture team at Hillwood brings the orchid-filled greenhouses to you in this beautifully illustrated 20-30-minute virtual tour. Learn more about the greenhouse history, Post’s infatuation with orchids, and the exotic blooms and fragrances on display now, while asking questions in real time.

CONNECTING WITH ZOOM

This virtual tour is presented live via Zoom. Participants can submit questions via the chat feature. Registered users will be emailed a link to join this Zoom program. ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Andrew Bedenbaugh (he/him) is Hillwood’s orchid and tropical specialist. He joined Hillwood in 2016 and is responsible for the greenhouses, orchid volunteers, and orchid collection. Andrew has worked professionally in the horticulture and agriculture industry for over twenty years in a variety of positions, including garden center sales and greenhouse growing, along with landscape management and design. Andrew graduated from Northern Virginia Community College in 2009 in horticulture technology and has a degree in landscape design specialization. Andrew has been an active member in the American Orchid Society AOS) and National Capital Orchid Society (NCOS) since 2004.
