Livestream Lecture: Conversation with Curators | "Grace of Monaco: Princess in Dior"

This is the third program in the Grace of Monaco: Princess in Dior lecture series.

Join Florence Müller, the originating curator of Grace of Monaco: Princess in Dior, and Hillwood’s curator Megan Martinelli for conversation as they explore the way Grace Kelly’s longstanding friendship with Marc Bohan, artistic director of Christian Dior, led her to turn so regularly to Dior as she acquired pieces tailored to both Hollywood glamour and stately elegance.

This virtual conversation is presented via Zoom. While the conversation between Müller and Martinelli will be pre-recorded, Martinelli will take live questions from the audience following the talk. Participants can submit questions via the Q&A feature.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Florence Müller is a fashion historian and curator, and is the originating curator of Grace of Monaco: Princess in Dior. She also curated Carla Fernandez Casa de Moda, a Mexican Fashion Manifesto, on display at the Denver Art Museum; Chapeaux Dior! L'Art du chapeau de Christian Dior à Stephen Jones at the Christian Dior Museum in Granville, France; and Joséphine Baker, an Extraordinary Destiny at Salle Saint Martin in Souillac, France.

Megan Martinelli joined Hillwood in January 2018 and is the associate curator of apparel, jewelry, and accessories. She has served as the lead curator for Grace of Monaco: Princess in Dior (20222), Roaring Twenties: The Life and Style of Marjorie Merriweather Post (2021), and Mid-Century Master: The Photography of Alfred Eisenstaedt (2019). Prior to Hillwood, Megan was a research assistant at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, where she assisted with exhibitions including China: Through the Looking Glass (2015) and Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology (2016). Megan holds a masters degree  in Historic Textiles and Costumes from the University of Rhode Island and a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Providence College.

Grace Kelly carefully cultivated her image in response to Hollywood’s wish for glamour and the desire for elegance in her stately duties. Explore her image and gain insights to her enduring partnership with Marc Bohan, artistic director of Christian Dior in the 1960s and 1970s, in this four-part lecture series.

Visitors can attend and ask questions whether they choose to come in person or join the livestream from the comfort of home; questions will be taken from all locations. (Please note: The October 18 lecture is presented live via Zoom; there is no in-person program.)
