The Secret World of Philadelphia’s Private Gardens
This is the fourth and final program in the Great Homes and Gardens lecture series.
Join garden historian Nicole Juday, author of the new book Private Gardens of Philadelphia, as she discusses the character-driven gardens she discovered in writing her book. Enhanced with lavish images by photographer Rob Cardillo, the talk will highlight not only how these stunning gardens reflect the personalities and interests of the owners, but what they reveal about their makers, and will examine how these contemporary landscapes speak to the social, economic, political, and religious influences that have contributed to the incredible horticultural richness of the Philadelphia region.
Nicole will sign copies of her book following the lecture.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Nicole Juday grew up in rural Illinois and had her first exposure to great horticulture when she came to Philadelphia in the 1990s. Soon thereafter, gardening became the catalyst for a career change and a source of lifelong fascination and learning. Her work includes serving as the rosarian for Wyck House and Garden, the oldest rose garden in the country. Later she managed the renowned program at Barnes Arboretum School in Merion before working in several roles at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. She has served on the boards of Awbury Arboretum and Historic Fair Hill. She enjoys writing and speaking about gardens and garden history and tending her own garden in the historic Germantown section of Philadelphia.
