Gardener's Focus Tour | Specialty Mums

Pink and orange chrysanthemums accented by red and green foliageMarjorie Post was particularly fond of chrysanthemums.

Join Jarett Currin, greenhouse grower, to learn how Hillwood continues the fifty-five-year tradition of propagating mums for fresh cut flowers in the weekly arrangements. Hillwood grows over fifty different types of chrysanthemums from spoon and spider to football and anemone in an array of gorgeous fall colors.

Tickets are distributed at the Ellen MacNeille Charles Visitor Center upon opening each day. This thirty-minute tour is limited to twelve and meets in the conservatory in the visitor center.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

For Jarett Currin (he/him), the seed was sown when he was very young, though he didn't realize it until 2012 when he took his first greenhouse job working with orchids. Since then, he has moved around quite a bit, from North Carolina to New York City, gaining almost ten years of experience in horticulture. Jarett has worked in many positions and places with a lot of different plants. Jarett started at Hillwood in June 2020 and has loved it since day one. Chrysanthemums in the fall, pansies and violas in the spring, and annuals for the summer—he loves and takes pride in growing them all. You can find Jarett working in the estate greenhouse or in the potting room with his cohorts. He is always willing to chat or to try to answer any plant question visitors may have.
