Mansion Docent

Hillwood is pleased to announce a new mansion docent training course, running from January through June 2026.
Mansion docents are integral members of Hillwood’s volunteer team, playing a key role in enriching the visitor experience. Through regularly scheduled public tours, private group tours, and assistance at special events and programs, docents bring to life the story of Hillwood’s estate, its remarkable collection, and its founder Marjorie Merriweather Post.
Time Commitment & Duties:
A minimum of two, four-hour shifts (11 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday) per month, contributing approximately 100 hours per year. During these four-hour shifts, docents usually lead two 60-minute tours at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Additional shifts are available, including a late afternoon tour at 3:30 p.m. on Fridays through Sundays, private tours, or on-station support during public programs and evening events.
This highly visible role is ideal for individuals who have a warm, engaging communication style, enjoy teaching or public speaking, and are passionate about history, art, and inspiring others.
Availability:
Weekday and especially weekend positions are available. Mansion docents serve on a flexible schedule by signing up for shifts that best fit their availability. Shift options may vary from week to week.
