Museum Teacher

Reports to: Head of Youth Audiences

Employment Status: Part-time (As-Needed), Non-Exempt

Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens welcomes over 100,000 visitors annually to experience the beauty of our gardens, the richness of our decorative arts collection, and the lasting legacy of Marjorie Merriweather Post. Our mission is to share our founder’s vision and foster a greater understanding of the arts and cultures that shaped her world.

The Museum Teacher supports Hillwood’s Interpretation team by delivering educational programs for school and youth audiences. This as-needed position supports year-round programming and is scheduled based on program demand.

Working collaboratively across Interpretation, Visitor Services, Facilities, and Security, the Museum Teacher helps ensure engaging, well-organized educational experiences for visiting groups.

About the Role:

  • Deliver onsite and virtual educational programs for school and youth audiences.
  • Lead guided tours and hands-on activities for K–12 students and Girl Scout troops.
  • Serve as an educator and representative of Hillwood during programs.
  • Support program setup, delivery, and breakdown as needed.

Museum Teachers are scheduled on an as-needed basis in alignment with program demand. Most Museum Teachers work approximately 1–2 programs per month, with programs scheduled primarily on weekends or evenings. This role does not include regularly scheduled weekly hours.

About You:

  • Experience teaching or working with K–12 students in formal or informal educational settings.
  • Strong communication skills and an engaging teaching presence.
  • Interest in museum education, art, history, or cultural institutions.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends, as scheduled.
