Museum Shop Sales Floor Supervisor Position Description

Title: Museum Shop Sales Floor Supervisor
Reports to: Head of Merchandise and Shop Experience
Employment Status: Overtime eligible (Non-Exempt)
Work Schedule: Total number of scheduled hours per week varies based on need. Employee’s schedule will be a combination of weekdays, Saturdays, and some Sundays. Evening hours may be required in addition to special event coverage.

Primary Functions: Provide a positive shopping and customer service experience to museum shop patrons.

Key Job Elements:

  • Perform all the duties of the Museum Shop Sales Associate.
  • Maintain mastery of all Museum Shop systems and procedures to enhance selling efficiencies.
  • Provides leadership on the sales floor.
  • Ensures Museum Shop Sales Associates are trained on all and follow shop protocols, provides coaching as needed.
  • Generates the staff schedule to ensure proper coverage.
  • Serves as backup for approving timesheets and leave requests.
  • Partners with shop leadership in hiring process.
  • Trains sales associates on TAM.
  • Troubleshoots and provides support for TAM on the sales floor.
  •  Creates log in information, accounts and passwords for sales associates in TAM.
  • Complete Daily Sales Report and deliver deposit and report to Finance Department daily.
  • Monitor and order change.
  • Assists with creating customer accounts (with associated discounts) to monitor staff, board, and volunteer shopping patterns.
  • Export Tessitura data sync to TAM software.
  • Partner with IT to ensure updates to software and hardware are completed in a timely manner.
  •  Provides support as needed with receiving, pricing, inventory and other functions.
  • Assists with annual physical inventory.

Knowledge:

Skills:

  • Leadership and coaching.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of sales and customer service techniques. 
  • Knowledge of point of sale software,
  • Education, experience or passion for museums, art galleries or gardens.     

Abilities:

  • Polished customer service skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic math and computer access skills are essential. Must be able to make change in American monetary units.
  • Work well with a diverse group of colleagues and an international clientele.
  • Flexible to the changing needs of each day, and have the ability to handle a fast-paced environment while providing a quality visitor experience.
  • Detail orientation

Employee is required to move about their work area, between buildings and the campus grounds, ascend and descend stairs and steep terrain. While performing the duties of this job the employee is subject outdoor weather conditions and temperatures which at times can be extreme. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and general does not require the use of hearing protection equipment.
