Virtual Horticulture How-To | Orchid 101

Virtual Orchid 101Learn how to care for your orchid and get blooms year after year from Hillwood's expert, Drew Asbury.

This virtual class focuses on several of the most commonly available orchids including the Phalaenopsis, or moth orchid, and the classic Cattleya, or corsage orchid. You'll learn all the basics of orchid culture including providing the proper light, water, temperature, fertilizer, and potting media. Troubleshooting tips such as basic care for common pests and techniques to encourage blooms will also be featured.

This virtual program is presented live via Zoom. Participants can submit questions via the chat feature. Registered users will be emailed a link to join this Zoom program. ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Drew Asbury (he/him) is Hillwood's horticulturist and volunteer manager. He joined Hillwood in 2012 and is responsible for the greenhouses, the cutting garden, and the horticulture volunteer program. Drew has worked professionally in the horticulture industry for nearly twenty years in a variety of positions including garden center sales, greenhouse growing, and landscape management and design. Drew graduated from the Longwood Gardens professional gardener training program in 2006 and completed a master's degree in sustainable garden design from The George Washington University in 2020.
