Circles Trip to Gilded Age Newport
Experience Newport during the Gilded Age with Hillwood!
Hillwood Circles members are cordially invited on an exclusive trip with Hillwood to Newport, Rhode Island. Join Kate Markert, executive director, in exploring Newport’s opulent historic mansions, rich sailing history, and classic New England dining.
Highlights of the trip include exclusive experiences in Gilded Age mansions, a spectacular private dinner at Marble House, and a curator-led tour of Rough Point. Marble House was completed in 1892 for Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt and was designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt. It includes 500,000 cubic feet of marble and was inspired by the Petit Trianon at Versailles. Rough Point is an English Manor style home, completed in 1892. Although it was originally designed for Frederick William Vanderbilt, it is known as the mansion of Doris Duke, who inherited it from her father in 1925 at the age of 12. Travelers will be welcomed into these two spectacular mansions to deepen their knowledge about Gilded Age architecture and society.
Trip price includes hotel accommodations, meals, and transportation in Newport beginning with lunch on Tuesday, May 7 and ending with breakfast on Thursday, May 9.
