About this object

The bottle is round and flattened with a thin oval ring foot. The entire surface is carved. On the front stands an Oriental philosopher and pupil in a landscape. To the left are rocks with a tree growing from it. The tree extends its branches across the top of the bottle. To the right is a wall. Above the wall to the right are rocks or mountains, a fortress wall and a small building or temple. On the other side the two men are playing the game GO in a similar landscape. They sit around a low table with the game pieces on top. To the right is a tree that grows and extends across the top. In the center back is a mountain and another to the left, filling the rest of the space. Around the neck is a circle of acanthus leaves pointing downwards. The cover is in filigree metal with small cabochons in turquoise and coral.
