About this object
Portrait of lady seen almost full length and seated on a chair facing forward. She wears a white and gold brocade dress with buttons in pearls. The dress is edged with lace at the neckline and edges of sleeves. Over her dress, she wears a blue velvet cape lined with a red, gold and blue brocade. Her hair is dressed high in the manner of the period with a curl over each shoulder. She holds a closed fan in her right hand. Her left hand and arm curve around a small dog sitting on her lap. She is seated on a gilt wood chair carved with bell flowers on the arms. At the left is a marble parapet on which a pillow rest. There is a red curtain above. Tassels hang from the curtain. In the upper right corner is a glimpse of a blue sky.
