About this object

This one-piece, gray velvet evening dress has an empire waist and narrow tubular skirt. It has embroidered ivory lace inset at the neck, waist, and side panels. Heavy embroidery embellishes the front and back of the bodice. The sleeves, waist, and side panels are trimmed with flat velvet bands which are also heavily embroidered. The high boned collar stands four inches in the back. A decorative collar inset of shocking pink is embroidered at the tie ends and finished with extensions of 2 1/2 inch jet beading. The garment is constructed with a boned silk satin lining extending to the hip line. The garment may actually date before 1910-12; the side seems have been reshaped and the hemline has been altered.
