About this object

This two-piece sheath-style dress has an empire waist and a narrow skirt. The bodice consists of black silk taffeta with an overlay of geometric beading on silk organza backed with open net. It is constructed on a boned inner bodice with mono-bust filler. The v-neck has an embroidered lace inset with a high boned collar. Vibrant blue silk crêpe ribbons trim the neck and sleeves. A gray satin waist sash completes the bodice. The skirt is black silk crêpe with a square apron of silk lawn. Heavy beading adorns the edges and bottom of the apron, finishing with 4 1/2 inch hand-strung jet fringe. The skirt is lined at the hem in black wool felt.
