About this object

The handkerchief seems to have been made in connection with the Risorgimento in Italy. There are four scenes, one on each side. View 1 has a view of St. Peter's in Rome with people in the Square in front of it. View 2 shows two men on horseback entering the city walls and being greeted by people. View 3 has a view of the facade of St. John Latern Church with a coach on one side and people on the other. View 4 shows an attack on the city with a fortress on a hill and soliders with cannons and guns. Each section is separated by poles with a flag hanging from it. The border is scalloped and has two leafy borders enclosing circular lace designs. The designs are interspersed with flowers that hang form the upper border. The center is empty.
