About this object

The round box is made from tortoise shell which has been stained. On the lid is a miniature of a young man, facing three-quarters to the right. He has brown hair, a blue coat with a high collar, a white neckpiece and a lace jabot. It is painted in gouache. The miniature has a metal border with a zig zag design.
