About this object

Rectangular box in black lacquer and lined with tortoiseshell. Cover has a fine oval miniature of Nicholas I, bust size, facing to the right and dressed in a general officer's uniform with epaulettes and with the blue ribbon of the imperial order of St. Andrew First Called, also two stars and several badges. Miniature has a gold frame and on either side of it is beautifully engraved scrollwork in gold of leaves, pinecones.
