About this object

The ice pail is white on blue. A structure of columns topped with vases and linked with swags of drapery frames two bacchanalian scenes. One one side two putti carry a third, and on the other side a putto and a child satyr sit under a tree. Classical ornamental vases and tripod stands alternate with these figural scenes. The handles on each side assume the form of high-relief foliage springing out from a tree. Around the upper edge is a grapevine scroll.The flower jars are white on blue. Around the central part of the jar are a series of columns with urns on top of them and swags of drapery joining the columns. On each face between the columns is a group of cupids sporting. Two cupids make a swing of their arms and hold another Cupid. Two cupids sit under a tree with one sleeping and the other about the waken him. To either side of each group of cupids are an urn on a pedestal and an altar with a fire burning, each of these being between two columns. Around the upper edge is a grapevine scroll and two handles are a bunch of leaves.
