ICE PAIL (ONE OF TWO)

Creator(s): Wedgwood (Manufacturer)

On view in: Adam Bedroom

About this object

The ice pail is white on blue. A structure of columns topped with vases and linked with swags of drapery frames two bacchanalian scenes. One one side two putti carry a third, and on the other side a putto and a child satyr sit under a tree. Classical ornamental vases and tripod stands alternate with these figural scenes. The handles on each side assume the form of high-relief foliage springing out from a tree. Around the upper edge is a grapevine scroll.
