About this object

Baby bonnet made of cream colored silk crepe. The top of the crown is inset with matching silk crepe, surrounded by crepe gathered into half diamond smocking. The decoration creates rows of motif, beginning with a roll of pleated satin ribbon repeated in 1” flat pleats. Between the pleated areas are attached pieced ermine tails, which each have a white base with dark brown tips, applied on the outside edge and loose between pleats. This is followed by a .25” break with pink and green satin rose buds. The next row is continuous roll pleating of satin ribbon, .75” wide, followed by a ruffle made of rouched crepe, doubled in half with an under treatment of 3 rows of shirred crepe with hand rolled edges. The top of the cap is finished with 2 ermine tails and two roses matching those on the side. On either side of the bonnet is an 8 lobed bow making a 2” roundel at the base where the white fur meets in the center back with dark brown fur, tied with cream colored silk ribbon.
