About this object

The background is white with raised lattice and fleurettes also in white. The sides of the two sections have cartouches with raised gilt scroll borders painted in colors. On the lower section a woman seated in a garden with a lover kneeling beside her, and on the other side a woman seated with a lover standing besides her and a blackamoor on the other side. On the upper section- two youths seated near an urn on a pedestal and classical ruins, and several young people near a fountain. On the top of the cover is a bust portrait of a young girl. The gilt mounts are chiseled. There are eight interior fittings, three other are missing. The catch is missing.
