About this object

The top of this small eight-pointed cross depicts God Savaoth in clouds above the dove of the Holy Spirit flanked by two hovering angels angels. Beneath is the figure of Christ flanked by the spear and sponge, with the scull of Golgotha beneath his feet, and the inscription "Jesus Christ King of Jews" above his head. The words "The Crucifixion of the Lord God . . ," "We bow to Your cross and we praise Your holy resurrection," and "Victory" run along the main cross-bar. The head of a cherubim is raised on a gallery above Christ's left hand, the right gallery and part of the top bar having been broken off. The body of the cross is ornamented with a fishscale pattern. There is an illegible inscription above a maltese? cross and leaf-and-vine pattern on the back of the cross.
