About this object

For her fifty-first birthday, celebrated in Moscow in 1938, Marjorie Merriweather Post received this clock from husband Joseph Davies. About this gift she wrote, "I recorded [in my scrapbook] my joy in receiving for my birthday a pink enameled clock by Fabergé and then going on that same evening to the Bolshoi Ballet, with the gift very much in mind."

Clock is shaped like a round occasional table with four legs. Dial is set in the middle of the top of the table with a border of seed pearls. Rest of tabletop is enameled in translucent pink with swags of leaves tied with bowknots carved in red and green gold. Rim of table is in silver as are the four legs shaped like the channeled columns with bases and claw feet. Legs are tied together by crossed scepters with a garland of leaves carved in green gold gathered with a red gold ribbon.
