About this object

On the cover of the oval box is an upright oval medallion containing a scene in painted enamel. It shows a boy holding a bird's nest and a staff, with his dog pleading at his knee. He wears knickers, high socks, buckled shoes, and a coat. He stands on a mound of earth and there is foliage in the background. The scene has a gold frame enclosing four narrow panels filled with pale lilac enamel and a leaf design. The outer rim has four similar panels and is edged with a twisted ribbon in tooled gold. The area between the medallion and the rim is covered with light green textured enamel. The sides of the box have similar panels in green and lilac. It is hinged.
