Gardener

Our Horticulture team ensures our gardens meet the high standards of our founder Marjorie Merriweather Post and are a welcome place for visitors from all over the world. Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens has over 13-acres of landscaped gardens and welcomes around 100,000 visitors a year who enjoy our art collection and garden rooms. Hillwood is seeking a passionate Gardener join our horticulture team.

The Gardener will work as a part of a team of horticulture professionals to perform daily duties including, weeding, mulching, planting, mowing and trimming lawns, blowing roads and walkways, leaf and snow removal, fertilizing and watering. In conversation with staff, volunteers and visitors you will use your customer service skills.

As someone who has worked as part of a high-performing team, you know how important communication, timeliness and attention to details is. You have worked with power equipment such as lawn mowers, blowers and string trimmers. You are passionate about bringing your enthusiasm for gardening to the next level or you are looking to starting your professional horticulture career in a public garden setting.

    • Employee contribution rates for medical plans are based on the coverage level selected at the employee’s base annualized salary. Essentially, those with higher salaries pay more for their medical coverage. The maximum employee contribution is $170 per biweekly payroll, most employees pay much less for medical insurance.
  • Retirement Savings Plan. Hillwood matches up to 3% with a discretionary match (up to 2% or more). The Hillwood contribution is 100% vested upon reaching three years of service.
  • Life and accidental death and dismemberment, short & long term insurance at no cost to the employee.

Hillwood requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The most recent booster recommended by the CDC is the updated bivalent booster to be taken at least two months after the second primary series dose or last booster.
