About this object
This figurine of Zhang Guo-lao, one of the eight Daoist Immortals, is molded in dark purple bakelite. He is depicted as an elderly man with a long moustache and beard, wearing a court official's hat and flowing robes, and holding his hands over his stomach. In his right hand he holds a closed fan while in his left hand he carries a long bamboo cane, the so-called "Fish Drum" or "yu-gu" that is his attribute. This figurine stands on a carved wooden base.
