CIGARETTE HOLDER
Creator(s): Cartier (Firm)
About this object
The sides of the white jade bowl flare outward and upward. The rim is bent sharply horizontal. There is a simple ring foot. The bowl has been made into a cigarette holder with four ashtrays in gold that surround a central support. The central section is for holding cigarettes and has a narrow white enamel Chinese design near the rim. The cover is topped with a white jade ornament carved in openwork and fastened to the center with six small sapphires. From the sides of the central section project gold wires ending in cabochon sapphires which hold four gold ash trays in a boat shape. They have a cigarette rest on one end and a holder for matches on the other.
