About this object

The burner is carved from lavender jade. Its shape follows that of an archaic incense burner. The main part is a bowl which narrows near the top and then expands for the rim. There are three paw feet carved with a bird at the top of each leg where it joins the body of the bowl. On each side is a handle carved with a bird which has outspread wings and a free hanging ring hanging from its beak. The cover has three free hanging rings with a carved fish where the support joins the cover. Above the front ring is an openwork ball with a movable ball inside. On the cover is a coiled dragon finial.
