About this object
The figurine shows Guanyin, the Buddhist Bodhisattva of Mercy, carved in a beautifully mottled emerald green jade. She is dressed in long flowing robes and has a top knot on her head. In her left hand she holds a flower and with her upraised right hand she grasps a leaf from the large plant on her back. The plant looks like a lotus and extends up her entire back. The wooden base is carved with rinceaux inlaid with silver wires.
