About this object

This is called a table bottle and was primarily made for tourists. The basic shape is a flattened rectangle. It is carved in very high relief, sometimes in the round, with a pattern of trees, vines, leaves, flowers and birds. On one side is a stag surrounded by leaves and pinwheel flowers. On the other side is a wild boar. Its head is down as if its eating and a bird perches on its back. Above the baor is another bird, looking down on it. They are also surrounded by leaves and pinwheel flowers. The matchin cover is rounded and carved in high relief with a bird sitting among the flowers.
