About this object

Subject is the hall and winter garden of the Tauride Palace in St. Petersburg. The ceiling is decorated with a scalloped design of leaves, intersected with a half circle design. Supporting the ceiling are four sets of columns, with ionic pediments. Four chandeliers hang from the ceiling in a basket type form. In the front of the columns are small chairs, and statues and urns placed on bases. A couple approaches from the left, and there are several people grouped at the base of the columns. Behind the columns are many trees and bushes. In the far distance is another set of columns and a wall with windows that appears to bow out.
