About this object

This icon as well as the icon of St Chrysostom (54.57) was once part of a royal door. A full length figure of St. Basil stands in three-quarter view facing to the right. He has a long club-shaped beard and wears the vestments of a bishop: a felon' (chasuble) with a pattern of black crosses on a white ground and a white omophor (stole) with black crosses. He gestures with his right hand towards the pearle-studded book of Gospels.
