About this object

The miniature is one of seven fragments from a mineological icon of saints whose feastdays are celebrated in October. It depicts St. Marous [Apostle Mark?] standing on patch of grass with distant mountains behind him. Balding and barefoot, he wears a blue mantle over a bright pink gown, the folds of which are rendered in chrysography. He clutches a book under his left arm and his body and eyes are turned sharply towards his left. A narrow border on the upper edge is inscribed with his name and the date of his feastday (31st)
