About this object
Apostles Peter and Paul stand slightly turned towards each other on a grassy knoll with a vista of hills in the distance. Each is lost in contemplation of the appearance above their heads of Christ on a bank of smoky gray clouds, his arms raised in blessing. Peter, on the left, wears an ochre-yellow hymation that falls in agitated folds over a dark green chiton. His left hand holds a furled scroll against his chest, his right holds the key of heaven. He has thick white hair and a short full beard. Paul is slightly younger, balding with a dark beard. His bulky, raspberry-red hymation is worn over a chiton of the same green as St. Peter's. These colors are repeated in reverse in Christ's green hymation over a pink chiton. From his left hand hangs a long sword with a twisted handle, in his right he holds a gospel. The haloes around the heads of the two saints and of Christ are white with a fine red border. The ground of the kovcheg is painted mint green with a dark green border and cinnebar red filenka. There are two transverse shponki on the verso.
