About this object
Half length portrait of Empress Maria Fedorovna, wife of Emperor Paul I (r. 1796-1801). She is facing three quarters to the right and looking to the right. Her hair is partially powdered and she wears a small, diadem-like crown with a plume in her hair. She is wearing a white blouse with lace and a blue dress with a pinkish bodice. On her left breast are the stars of the orders of St. Andrew and St. Catherine with the ribbons of the two orders across her breast. Around her neck is a chain with a pendant set with her own cameo of Catherine the Great in the guise of a helmeted Minerva.
