About this object

The miniature painting on enamel represents a bust sized portrait of the Duchess of Lorraine facing right. The sitter wears a dress brown trimmed with lace and pearls and an elaborate brooch at the center of her décolletage. A red robe lined with ermine drapes over her shoulder. Eyes and hair are brown. The miniature is surrounded by an elaborate frame consisting of three circlets of diamonds. At the top is a globe, a sheath and arrows from which sprays of leaves and flowers fall to either side. At the bottom is a bowknot also with leaves and flowers. The back is engraved with leaves and roses.
