About this object
Ekaterina Fominichna Chevkina, née Tomatis (1812-1879), was the daughter of Thomas Ivanovich Tomatis (1753-1823). She served as a lady-in-waiting to the Empress and was part of the Middletons’ circle. She married Russian general Konstantin Valdimirovich Chevkin (1803-1875) in 1829.
The half-length portrait depicts Ekaterina Fominichna Chevkina facing partly left, her eyes turned towards the viewer, against a background of grey clouds. Her hair is elaborated styled in an Apollo knot. She wears a simple blue dress with no jewelry. A white transparent veil with a gold border is draped over her head and shoulders.
