About this object
Portrait of Empress Catherine II dressed in ermine, wearing a small diamond imperial crown, diamond earrings, a diamond necklace with a chain pendant terminating in a full-cut pear-shaped diamond (1750s, now in Kremlin Museums), the diamond and silver "Grand Imperial Chain of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called (St. Petersburg, 1780s, now in Kremlin Museums), and the orange and black sash of the Order of St. George. The gilt frame is surmounted by a large and prominent double-headed surrounded by a garland of laurel leaves at top. The empress’s cipher is on a shield on the eagle's chest.
