About this object
Represented is a young woman in three-quarters length standing, her body seen from the back turned three quarters to the left, her head turned towards the spectator, her hair is pulled back into a ponytail except for a braid in front concealing her ear from which hangs a transparent tear-drop earring, a string of pearls lies across the top of her forehead. She wears an off-the-shoulder lavender velvet dress with a tight bodice and full skirt, attached to her upper left arm by a brooch, is a billowing loop of white gauze, her left hand touches the edge of a book open to an illustration of a landscape, the book and two others rest on a table with an ornate scrolled base, at the left is a tall glass vase with a bouquet of flowers, behind the subjects head is a piece of drapery with a floral pattern.
