The ivory guards are individually carved to depict a generic garden scene with a pagoda and figures. The ivory sticks are carved and pierced, also showing garden scenes with figures and pagodas. Each rib is slit for passage of a ribbon. Two ivory colored tassels hang from the metal u-clasp at bottom. Made for export to the West.
