About this object
This tubular, waistless dress typifies many of the radical changes in women’s fashions of the 1920s. The dress is slightly flared at the bottom, a feature that made it particularly well-suited to dancing. Its accessories include a matching slip, cape, purse, and fan in the same striking combination of cream and cobalt blue silk velvet embroidered with rhinestones.
This tubular, waistless evening dress is typical of the 1920's. The ivory velvet bodice is accented by a cobalt blue velvet band beginning at the left shoulder and carried through to the skirt. The skirt is slightly flared at bottom, a feature that made it particularly well suited to dancing. The dress is embellished with punched rhinestones and blue beads in a floral motif. A free hanging sash extends from the left shoulder down the back of the dress. This sash and the skirt are backed with a paler blue silk organza. A narrow cape of silk velvet with a rolled neck band is edged and beaded to match the gown. A slip is sewn into the garment. Other accessories include a matching purse and feather fan.
