About this object
High waisted dress of pale pink-purple silk with an overlay of machined, cotton embroidered lace. A small decorative waist sash of lavender silk organza ends in a floral detail with ribbon rosebuds in a plastic-like setting. These rosebuds are also applied at the short sleeve edges, at center back neck and on skirt at lower left front. Other details include 80 small covered buttons at sleeve edges and center back closure. The make and style of this dress indicate that it was ready made and hand altered. The hobble skirt and long train typify what is best known as a "tea gown."
