About this object

This two-tone evening dress was custom made in silk crêpe and taffeta. The asymmetrical design of the bodice was created by diagonally overlapping pleated bands of pink crêpe in alternating shades. The pleated fabric at the top right side continues around to the back of the dress and opens at the center back to form a narrow, floor-length train. The outer skirt consists of two layers of silk crêpe that have been cut into gores. The underskirt is cut in a circle with front and back seams. The dress closes in the back with a metal zipper. Narrow shoulder straps of velvet ribbon have been added or replaced the original straps. The dress has been altered—this is evident at the side bust and center back areas.
