About this object

This short sleeved afternoon dress is constructed in pink linen with floral cutouts overlaid with tan organza. A smaller pink linen flower is applied to the center of each overlay. Leaves and stems are created with flat chain stitched embroidery on the pink linen background. White beads accent the flowers and leaves. These cutouts decorate the edge of the wide scoop neckline. Strung white beads outline the neck edge and a small organza covered keyhole at center front. Other flower cutouts are placed throughout the bodice, sleeves and skirt. The A-line skirt is shaped with shallow darts at side front waist and a large, double inverted box pleat at center back. The bodice and skirt are backed with silk organza. The garment closes with a metal zipper at center back. Two crocheted belt carriers at each side waist indicate that the garment was worn with a belt that is no longer present. A red ribbon symbolizing the French Legion of Honor medal is sewn at left shoulder.
