About this object

A white cotton bed linen set consisting of a sheet and three large pillow cases and one small pillow case. There is a a Vieux Flandre bobbin lace edging on all pieces of the set. This edging ranges in depth of 9 1/2 inches on the sheet to 4 inches on the large cases and to 2 1/4 inches deep on the small case. The design of the lace consists of large floral medallions in the corners and the sides of the edging. There is a scrolling pattern of leaves and smaller flowers between these motifs. On the top center of the set is the Davies coat of arms executed in white satin stitch embroidery. Above the coat of arms is an applique of flowers and leaves with accents of white embroidery. In each corner at the top of the large pillow case pieces is an applique of three flowers with white embroidery accents. The applique in the corners of the small pillow case has just one flower. The sheet has the same elements except the coat of arms is upside down and there are additional applique flower motifs at the top. Below the corner design elements is a spray of appliqued flowers similar to the ones above the coat of arms. The pillow cases have their opening in the back with 6 buttons running along the edge of the large cases and 4 buttons running along the edge of the small case.
