About this object

A bed set consisting of a sheet and two pillow cases. The set is made of a natural linen and is edged with a cotton Irish crochet at the cuff of the sheet and the opening of the pillow cases. The Irish crochet is in a cream colored cotton and has large motifs of roses, shamrocks and grapes in raised work. On the outer edge of the sheet cuff on the sides of the sheet there is an added crochet edge in ecru. The sheet cuff crochet is 18 1/2 inches deep at the top and on the sides it is 4 inches. Three inches from the crochet edge on the sheet is a zig-zag hem stitch. On the long American pillow cases the edging at the opening is 10 inches deep and two inches from this attachment is a zig-zag hemstitch. On all pieces of the set is a satin stitch embroidered monogram MPD. The sheet and pillow case 45.670.2 have the monogram in a gold colored thread, while case 45.670.3 has the monogram in white. This may be due to a bleaching or was the original intent.
