About this object

A six piece bed linen set consisting of one sheet and five pillow cases. The set is made of white linen and cotton with a Vieux Flandre lace trim. The Davies crest is embroidered in white work on 45.656.3 and 45.656.6. The other pieces of the set have the crest executed in applique with highlight of embroidery. On all the pieces of the set is embroidered at the base of the crest INTEGRITAS. Above the crest on all pieces of the set are double scrolls created by embroidered edges. Within the scrolls are small circles that have drawnwork in the center that gives a checkerboard look and these circles alternate with circles of satin stitch embroidery. There are appliqued parts of a tulip like appliqued flower that is situated at the center of the scrolls. The leaves of the flower are of applique, drawnwork and satin stitch embroidery. The lace edgings to the set are in proportion to the size of the piece. For the sheet the depth of the lace is sixteen inches along the edges. The pillow case 45.656.2 is five inches. Pillow case 45.656.3 is two and one half. Pillow cases 45.656.4 and 45.656.5 are five inches. Pillow case 45.656.6 is two and one half. The design of the lace is created by a mesh of reseau ordinaire and petit reseau surrounding bobbin lace scrolling flowers that are highlighted by bars and mesh.
