About this object

A large white embroidered doily. The doily has 10 scalloped points with areas missing for two more. The design is composed of raised satin stitch embroidery and cut work with needle lace insertions. Starting in the center area there are 12 cut out tear drops that are filled with needlelace alternating between a pyramid design and a web design. Radiating from the tear drops are satin stitched leaves and satin stitch circles that gradually reduce in size as the fan out to the edge. Next are half moon cut outs that are filled with alternating needle lace fillings of pyramids and rosettes. The edges of the doily are scalloped and covered with buttonhole stitches.
