About this object

The epitrakhil’ is constructed in one piece, rather than having been cut down the center and being closed with buttons or hooks, as was more common in the 19th century. The fabric is brocaded with a pattern of large oak leaves and acorns in gilt metal threads against a background of silver-wrapped threads. On the wide border is a gilt metal band decorated with a rinceau of oak leaves and acorns. On the front are applied three equal-armed crosses in silver- and gold-wrapped threads and ornamented with gilt spangles. The bottom is ornamented with a row of gilt fringe and the entire garment is line with a cream colored silk.
